GridION Long-read Sequencer
Equipment Introduction
Nanopore sequencing is a unique, scalable technology that enables direct, real-time analysis of DNA or RNA fragments of any length. It works by monitoring changes to an electrical current as nucleic acids are passed through a protein nanopore. The resulting signal is decoded to provide the specific DNA or RNA sequence. GridION Mk1 is a compact benchtop sequencing system. It allows up to five sequencing experiments to be run concurrently or individually. The GridION Mk1 has five sequencing ports where MinION/GridION Flow Cells or Flongle Adapters with flow cells can be connected, as well as a high performance integrated computer and basecalling accelerator. The device can basecall, in real-time, the data generated by five flow cells/Flongles. The current chemistry and software enables generation of up to 240 Gbases of data during a GridION Mk1 run.
