Glow discharge cleaning system is used for cleaning and surface treatment of TEM grids and supporting films, such as hydrophobic TEM carbon films exhibiting increased hydrophilicity after gas glow discharge treatment, resulting in more uniform dispersion of polar suspension samples on the carbon film.
